Morel Hunting

Springtime is a good time to get out in the woods and look for mushrooms. Several years ago I was visiting a site in the woods where there was an old cross marking the spot where several children had died in a fire in Christmas day 1908. You could still see some metal pieces sticking out of the ground. As I was looking around I spotted a mushroom. I had never found one before but I was sure this was a morel mushroom. I started searching the area and found a couple grocery bags full of nice morels. Each year I now hunt for them. Some years are better than others. Below are some pictures.

This is picture of one of my favorite spots. A old homestead overgrown with aspen.

Sometimes you find other neat things like this old sausage stuffer.

And sometimes they are past their prime. This particular year had a bumper crop but half look like this when found.
